Imane Ayissi is the first sub-Saharan designer to join the prestigious official calendar of the haute couture week, which is currently held in Paris. On Thursday, this designer of Cameroonian origin will present his creations alongside the houses of Chanel, Dior and Givenchy. A consecration for this plural artist who sublimates in his work the richness of African crafts, far from clichés … and far from wax! Encounter

The interview on France 24

“The emotion is immense,” said Cameroonian-born designer Imane Ayissi on France 24, as he prepares to present “Akouma” (“Wealth”), his haute couture collection in Paris on Thursday. “It had to happen and it was about time. Everyone is inspired by Africa, sometimes we do it without Africans, it is about time we do it with Africans.”
