[CamerExcellence] A voice to follow. Especially if you are a listener of “Radio du Monde” (another name for RFI). A path to follow, now, if you dream of becoming a journalist like Denise Epoté. Her current position is proof of this, with her appointment to three positions within TV5Monde, on 10 January 2022. These are the positions of Marketing Director of TV5Monde, PCA TV5Monde USA and TV5Monde Latin America. The announcement was made on Facebook by the General Delegate of Ecrans Noirs, Bassek Ba Kobhio, who is also a friend of Denise Epoté. The information about the promotion was confirmed by internal sources at TV5Monde, who nevertheless indicated that they would wait for the official press release to know the positions indicated.

At the same time, she remains Director of TV5Monde Africa. A position she has held since 2002. At the same time, she presents the Sunday magazine, “Têtes d’affiche” on Radio France Internationale. She is a role model for many young people and is quite simply the finished expression of several years of self-sacrifice and dedication to her service.

Denise Laurence Djengué Epoté, her full name, began her professional career at Radio Cameroon in 1985. She became the first female presenter of the 8:30 p.m. news in French at the national broadcasting corporation. Together with her English-speaking colleague, Eric Chinje, they presented the news until 1993. This was the date when she left the former Radio Cameroun, which became Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV. Flying Abroad At the time, France could not imagine that it would welcome on its soil a voice whose resonance would be felt outside its borders. And in what way?

Awards for the icon

Several awards in his pocket. And not the least. Notably, the prize for best television journalist at the Pan-African Broadcasting Heritage and Accomplishment Awards in 2001 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Other African countries followed suit in 2006. By conferring on her the status of “Officer of Arts and Letters of Burkina Faso”. Then “Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite national du Sénégal et Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite camerounais”.

Also in 2006, France made her a ‘Knight of the French National Order of Merit. And in 2013, she was crowned. And in 2013, it will be a total crowning achievement. Denise Epoté has been awarded the highest French honour: “Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur”.

Senegal will come back with the ‘Prize offered by the people of Médina-Mary’, also in 2013. All these awards are far from coincidental.

A love of work

In 1999, Denise Epoté presented the magazine “Et si… vous me disiez toute la vérité”. A programme that lifts a corner of the veil on subjects that concern the African continent. The programme will have the honour of receiving the former Malian president, Amadou Toumani Touré, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

Since its launch, the programme has had the presence of other heads of state, such as Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar, Omar Bongo Ondimba of Gabon and Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of Mauritania, not to mention other eminent African personalities.

Then it will be the turn of “Afrique Presse”. The journalist will give the floor to her colleagues from Libération, a French newspaper.

They will discuss the problems of black Africa. Once again, Denise Epoté is guided by the political fibre that has taken shape in her since she was a student at the Yaounde International School of Journalism (ESIJY), renamed the Higher School of Science and Technology of Information and Communication. One of the teachers of this school, Dr François Marc Modzom said that she had the predisposition to succeed in politics.

She was one of the only women in her class. And she was interested in everything related to politics, he confided to some of his students. The journalist and presenter have been married since 1991 and is 68 years old.
